Night Air

The purple silhouette of trees at dusk
Contrast the sky's gentle brush strokes of rust
And the changing hews of light, to my eyes dim
While stars come out on opposite horizon
Autumnal breeze cuts across bare skin
Before me lung's expulsion frozen
Yet retrieved again I find refreshment
Soul receives from this moment investment
Upon the threshold of winter
Reprieve from summer tormentor
The sweltering of noon day is gone
Replaced by cold nights and sleepy dawn
Soon upon us snow will press
Perhaps then wish us for less
Heed us not the skies above will
Keep precipitating their chill
Gather friends all around
Take lumber from the ground
Neatly set them all ablaze
Warmth we seek these deep dark days
And we shall have it
Toss on a faggot
Skewer the marshmallows
Share them with your fellows
Add the chocolate
Do not drop it
And with graham build s'mores
Then share us your lores
Ghosts and ghouls
Scare the fools
Then to bed sent
I lay in tent
Rest will come
This was fun
Sleep
Deep
Await
Dream state
…
